a box
an arm with a joint
on suggesting this idea to Jen, two days before the midterm was due, she looked at me and laughed saying that building something that moved was really hard. I placed my arm on the table and try to see how, with a simple push and pull, I could make something move. I decided one joint that only went in one direction would be the best, so I made it then. The weighting of the box was a little tricky. I had to make it lean forward so that, like a toddler, it would be falling forward and catching itself.

an expensivish voice recognition chip
The voice direct chip was easy to set up just following the enclosed instructions. I programmed the chip to recognize some words. When the chip recognizes a word it sends a one second pulse out of a specific port. This years chip comes with the new feature of having an active listening option where the chip is always listening for either one word which sets it to listen for the next 15, or it can listen for three words each connected to 5 words. The voice direct 364 is very accurate at voice recognition but is sensitive to background noise. I did find that it had a much easier time recognizing "please stop" as opposed to just "stop" perhaps it is a chip that demands respect. In a quiet room it is very successful at proper recogntion. It should be noted that the chip really only recognizes the voice of the trainee; my father and I have very similar voices so we both can use it but my mother can't.
