There are a number of companies that make this type of range finder as mentioned in this <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hizook.com\/blog\/2008\/12\/15\/sick-laser-rangefinder-lidar-disassembled\">post<\/a><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"margin: 0.0px 0.0px 13.0px 0.0px; font: 13.0px Georgia; color: #222222\">They&#8217;re a common fixture on many robotic platforms, especially DARPA Grand Challenge <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hizook.com\/blog\/2008\/11\/04\/mits-darpa-urban-grand-challenge\"><span style=\"color: #2e89c8\">vehicles<\/span><\/a>. Of course, the SICK is not the only lidar around; numerous competitors have popped up, such as the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hizook.com\/blog\/2009\/01\/04\/velodyne-hdl-64e-laser-rangefinder-lidar-pseudo-disassembled\"><span style=\"color: #2e89c8\">Velodyne<\/span><\/a> (below left) and a number of capable Hokuyo laser rangefinders (the four pictured below on the right available from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.acroname.com\/robotics\/parts\/c_Sensors.html\"><span style=\"color: #2e89c8\">Acroname<\/span><\/a>).
